The Summer Sanitarium Tour Opener
July 4, 2003 Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac MI
A brief overview:
Mudvayne played first. Not a huge Mudvayne fan, but they played much better than everyone else except Metallica, who rocked like no other. Gained much respect for Vayne on this night.
Deftones were next. I like the Deftones, but found out how much they suck live. Chino can't get his shit straight...lost much respect for the Deftones on this night...
Linkin Park was next. They suck even more live than they do on the radio. Big surprise there... Dr. Han or whatever the DJ's name is has to like...stop making music. Terrible.
Limp Bizkit was after LP. Fred Durst got shit thrown at him from the crowd. Me and the rest of my group (there must have been 15 of us that caravaned to Detroit) dominated the front row. We all flipped him off. A rogue shoe thrown from the crowd found its mark and nailed Durst in the face. Funniest damn thing ever. Bizkit performed their cover of Sanitarium...felt like blasphemy. Even I felt guilty for listening.
Metallica. Holy freaking shit. I was a little worried after St. Anger that they might suck, much like the album does. Those worries were soon laid to rest. Opened with Battery, and went right into Master of Puppets.(Insert adjective synonomous with "holy shit" here)... Next was Harvester of Sorrow, then Sanitarium, followed by Frantic, Sad But True, then St. Anger...beyond that it was all a blur, but I remember Fuel, For Whom the Bell Tolls, No Remorse, Seek & Destroy, Blackened, Creeping Death, Nothing Else Matters...Final encore was One, which was filled with crazy pyrotechnics (4th of July style), and Enter Sandman closed out the set. Survived the pit for 9 hours. (Vayne went on at 3:00 PM, 'tallica ended at midnight). Beautiful.
Metallica rocks like no other. If you think otherwise, you're a hippy and should be slapped...
